Spring Wildflowers at Myakka

Late February is early spring here in south Florida.  We enjoyed an afternoon hike in Myakka River State Park and saw some early wildflowers mixed among the browns of winter.

We hiked along the Fox Road Trail...through hammock and dry prairie.

Some winter colors and brown seedpods persist into the spring.

A beautiful part of the trail through a Slash Pine Hammock.

We weren't the only ones who enjoyed the trail or the beautiful day.

Out onto the dry prairie.

A Live Oak Hammock

Plenty of acorns for Scrub Jays and critters.

The Long Leaf Pines are always green, but the new needles are a much paler shade.

Another great day afield here in Gulf Coast Florida.
