Maine Spring Butterflies, and a Moth!

 Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus) or maybe a Canadian Tiger Swallowtail (P. canadensis).  Very hard to distinguish between the two.



 Dreamy Duskywing (Erynnis icellus).  This skipper often basks with open wings.

Boreal  Spring Azure (Celastrina ladon lucia).



White-Spotted Sable (Anania funebris).  Small, but very beautiful, diurnal moth.

Lots to see in spring Downeast....life beginning again after a long and hard winter.

    Your azure is actually Celastrina lucia and the "Eight-Spotted Forester" is Anania funebris.

    Thanks much for the ID help. I have been using the Audubon Field Guide to New England.....can you recommend another? Will correct.
